Wa authorities, since early July, has been cracking down on drug addicts, Burmese agents and newcomers. Until 15 July, they have already rounded up some 200 people, including Shans and Burmese. Those who agree to become Wa soldiers are given uniforms and kept apart from others. Those who refuse to become Wa soldiers are told they are to serve as laborers. As a result, the number of newcomers entering Wa territory has dropped during the last week.
